Gum Disease Treatment

Gum Disease Treatment
Symptoms of gum disease include sensitive or bleeding gums, inflammation, persistent bad breath, a receding gum line, and loose teeth. Fortunately, our team offers comprehensive periodontal therapy. Performed more frequently than biannual cleanings, periodontal therapy can include scaling and root planing, a process that promotes healthy gum tissue. Arestin (minocycline), a proven antibiotic, may be used to aid in the elimination of periodontal disease.
To ensure that you receive the best possible care, there are times when we might need to refer you to a periodontal specialist in certain advanced cases. Our team will be sure to help you get this appointment set up, and we’ll also follow up with you afterwards!
How Common Is Gum Disease?
Very. The CDC estimates that about 4 in 10 U.S. adults aged 30 or older have some form of periodontitis, about 60% of adults 65 and older have it, and severe periodontitis affects roughly 8% of adults. It is also the leading cause of tooth loss. Gum disease progresses in stages: gingivitis first, where gums are red, swollen, and bleed easily, then periodontitis, where the gums pull away from the teeth and form pockets that harbor bacteria and break down the supporting bone. The earlier stage is often reversible with professional care and improved home care; the later stage is managed, not reversed - which is why the symptoms above should not be ignored.
